Civil Security Sector worth €26 Billion in Europe alone Uncovering new business opportunities for SMEs to break into untapped market
The InterTradeIreland Innovation Connections Programme is the first of its kind in Ireland in that it introduces to SMEs a tried and tested process of identifying market needs through the use of design as a driver of innovation.
This is different from traditional market research techniques as it identifies how things are used in context by end users, their criteria for defining what is of value to them and a process for validating the opportunities, or indeed discarding them at an early stage which reduces the cost and risk involved in traditional research & product development.
Six end users were recruited, who are major Civil Security Stakeholders in both jurisdictions of the island of Ire-land and also in the aviation sector – either directly or with heavy overlap. Participating End-Users included: An Garda Síochana, Police Service Northern Ireland (PSNI), CPNI (Critical Protection of the National Infrastructure, UK), Shannon Airport, Cork Airport and Belfast City Airport.
5 workshops were undertaken with 60 participants from 48 SME companies. External expert validation was obtained through: European aviation Security & Regulatory expert (Belgium) and the Airports Council International, AVSEC committee
